Manual of English Phonology

The word, “phonology,” comes to us from two Greek combining forms,
phon” and “logy”.  “Phon” means “sound,” and “logy” means “the study
of”.  Literally, the word, “phonology” means “the study of sound”.  The study
of sound proves to be an important endeavor for academic success due to the
fact that our written language (written code) is a symbolic representation for
our spoken language (verbal code).  In order to firmly grasp the relationship
between sounds and their graphic representations in print, an awareness of
sound-symbol correspondence must be fostered.  The very essence of this
    knowledge is termed phonemic awareness.

This 89-page book offers a thorough explanation regarding sound-symbol
correspondence and provides complete coverage of all vowels, vowel teams,
consonants, consonant digraphs.  Additionally, a comprehensive presentation
of the spelling rules that govern the production of our written language are
    explored.
